Practical 5: Quail Egg Drop Challenge
Putting in Impact Absorber
In practical 5, we are suppose to do an egg drop challenge, but with a twist or two... we are using a quail egg instead of a normal chicken egg. The second twist is that our design must be created completely by 3d printing.
Our design
As you can see from the sketch, our design consist or a inner case, done by How Weng Yan, the outer case, done by me, and the impact absorber, done by Hong De Ming Justin. We used Fusion 360 in order to design each of our respective part .

How did I do the Outer Case
This is the Outer Case- Bottom Half design. The dimension is 60mm by 60mm by 40mm.(Length by breadth by height) The middle hole size is 40.8mm by 40.8mm by 20 mm . This is to ensure that Weng Yan's Inner case of dimension 40mm by 40 mm by 40 mm fit perfectly into the bottom outer piece, without gaps while ensuring that the inner case can actually fit. there are a hole on each side with a depth of 20mm and a diameter of 5.2mm. This is to ensure the Impact absorber is tight fit as well. The impact absorber have a diameter of 5mm
This is the Outer Case-Top Half design. The dimension is also 60mm by 60mm by 40mm. The hole have a dimension of 40.9mm by 40.9mm by 20mm. The dimension is different as compared to the bottom half as we do not want the top the be tight fit, or we would not be able to take it off after we finish the egg drop challenge.
How we printed our design
We used Ultimaker Cura application in order do our printing. First we save our file as STL, before loading the file it the Ultimaker Cura application, before selecting the printer we use and the changing the print setting to our desired setting
Bottom Half
Top Half
It took a total of 5 hours to print both part at print speed of 100mm/s. However, due to time shortage as many people are queuing up to use the printer, I ran both print at 150% print speed which reduced the timing to 3.5 hours in total. This affected the print quality by a noticeable difference.

Reflection
Honestly speaking, I felt that my team did a decent job, however, it could have been better, if we started earlier. We started only in term 2 which resulted in consequences. Such consequence include needing to compete with other class for the 3d printers and needing to compromise by increasing print speed so other people can use the printers., which resulted in worse printing quality.
